The skip trowel texture, by its nature, lends itself to flexibility in the way is has been applied. Look at one to the next and you'll notice high amounts of variation. These can range from textures that mimic heavier knock downs, to those that look like movements within stucco. Newbies that have never applied the skip texture technique, and there is a definite technique to forming this, should practice with other texture types before attempting.



Skills: Advanced, to become familiar with the trowel/mode of application. And for achieving consistency with the desired, angular variation over distance.

Materials: Joint compound mixed to thickness. Masking and cleanup is held to a minimum because this is hand-applied, rather than by spray pump.

Tools: The trowel (plastic/rubber/metal) or possibly a taping knife. Ladders for close work. A mixing paddle and heavy electric drill.
